“They Want to Kill Me,” Teriak David, Darah Lalu Bersimbah

Pertemuan saya dengan ayah David, Hartono Wijaya, hari ini mengindikasikan kuat pembunuhan. Riset David setelah terus saya verifikasi menajam; indikasi “rebutan” hak penemuan “ komponen” obyek 3 dimensi yang bisa tayang di udara, bisa juga berguna bagi televisi masa depan yang dapat ditonton kasat mata, tanpa kacamata khusus, laksana riset yang pernah dilakukan Lucas Art & Co.

Inilah Sketsa ke-3 sebagai seorang literary citizen reporter, indikasi tentang kasus pembunuhan anak jenius, aset bangsa seharusnya.SOSOK Hartono Wijaya berkacamata berkemeja lengen pendek bergaris biru berpantolan biru tua. Alur benang celana bagian pisak depannya melicin. Ada goresan seterikaan. Sepatu hitamnya bertelapak tipis. Penampilannya sederhana saat saya temui. Hartono adalah ayah kandung David Hartanto, mahasiswa Indonesia yang tewas di kampusnya di Nanyang Technology University (NTU), Singapura, pada 2 Maret 2009 lalu.“They want to kill me, they want to … kill me … they …”Di menjelang ajal itu, David berteriak-teriak, “They want to kill me,” lalu lari terbirit-birit, di lantai tempat ia berkonsultasi dengan dosen pembimbing skripsinya, Prof., DR. Chan Yan Loek, 45 tahun, di jurusan Electrical Engineering.Tak ada bala bantuan. David ketakutan.Bayangan kematian di depan mata.

Malaikat maut seakan menabal ajal. Kampus bergengsi di pagi cerah mulai ramai namun sepai.Di 2 Maret 2009, sekitar pukul 10 waktu Singapura, suasana senyap, ternyata telah mengantar tubuh David yang semula segar bugar lalu kelengar. Indikasi lehernya ditebas, lalu badannya dibuang, dijatuhkan dari lantai empat kampus, tempat segala ilmu dan kelimuan yang mengdepankan integritas itu terjadi.Seorang wanita, pekerja di NTU melihat sosok David lari terbirit-birit. Ia mendengar jelas suara, “They wanto to kill me…” Tetapi ia tak menyangka sebuah permintaan tolong melolong.Ia mengira, agaknya, hanya sebuah adegan bercanda.Wanita itu menceritakan detik mencekam itu kepada Hartono Wijaya, pada 2 Maret 2009 petang di Singapura, di saat sosoknya berkunjung ke kampus NTU.“Jika saya sebutkan nama wanita itu kepada Anda, akan dibunuh pula wanita itu kini,” ujar Hartono.Indikasinya leher David ditebas pisau. Darah berceceran di tangga, sebagaimana foto tetesan darah yang sedang dibersihkan yang telah dikirim oleh seorang blogger di Singapura kepada saya.

Foto itu kini juga beredar di internet, Facebook, dan menjadi potongan video visual yang dibuat oleh Christovita Wiloto.Kalimat David lari terbirit-birit dengan nada ketakutan itu diceritakan Hartono dengan mata berkaca-kaca. Saya lalu meminta tolong ayah David ini mendeskripsikan jasad anaknya ketika pertama kali melihat.Ditemani oleh pihak Kedutaan Indonesia di Singapura pada sore, 2 Maret 2009, oleh pihak kepolisian ia tak diperbolehkan melihat jasad David. Alasannya masih dalam otopsi. “Keesokan harinya saya kembali.”“Anak saya badannya dililit plastik, dibalut macam mumi plastik bening.”“Tetapi saya melihat lehernya diplester, ada tiga baris plester.”Demikian paparan Hartono kepada saya.Saya berjumpa Hartono di sela-sela diskusi yang diadakan oleh Christivita Wiloto, Selasa, 17 Maret 2009, pukul 13.30. Chris membuat pertemuan diskusi sekalian memberikan penghargaan kepada penulis resensi bukunya, Behind Indonesia Headlines, dalam sebuah diskusi bertopik Membangun Citra Positif Indonesia Melalui Pemberitaan Media. “Mengapa media di Indonesia hanya mengutip saja keterangan media di Singapura, bahwa David memutus nadi, melompat bunuh diri,” ujar Christovita membuka diskusi.Bisa saya maklumi Hartono enggan menyebut wanita saksi mata itu. Toh, empat hari setelah kematian David, sosok Zhou Zheng, peneliti, yang di saat hari kematian David turut hadir di ruangan Prof Chap Yan Loek, mati gantung diri.

Christovita membuat sebuah film presentasi bahan yang dikumpulkan di forum Straits Time. Kumpulan foto kematian David; deretan kejanggalan, seperti dua tulisan saya sebelumnya, sudah beredar di banyak milis, blog , di Facebook, kini.Di tanggal 3 Maret, kedua orang tua David di Singapura, diminta membuat keputusan cepat, mengkremasi jasad atau membawa pulang ke Indonesia.“Entah mengapa kala itu, dalam keadaan kalut kami memutuskan mengizinkan kremasi,” kenang Hartono. Matanya berkaca. Seakan ada penyesalan di sana.Pertanyaannya lalu, mengapa David dipatheni?

SAYA teringat akan pergumulan saya di dunia visual. Sejak berhenti jadi wartawan di Majalah SWA pada 1989, saya kemudian membuka usaha sendiri, mulai dari graphic design hingga visual animasi. Bahkan pada 1993, saya memutuskan penuh berusaha bergerak di bidang animasi.

Hingga 1996, usaha saya tutup, setelah menginvestasikan uang Rp 1,2 miliar, sebuah angka besar bagi saya - - karena diperoleh dari usaha sendiri dari nol. Saya membuat animasi 2D wayang, 3D wayang.Dalam pergulatan yang membawa kerugian uang itu, mengantarkan saya kepada pengetahun piranti lunak dan kemampuan visual. Saya mengenal yang namanya aplikasi software animasi 3D; mulai dari Soft Image 3D, 2D, Toon, 3D Studio Max. Hardware mulai dari high end komputer Silicon Graphic yang dipakai untuk menjalankan aplikasi editing macam Inferno - - dulu di Jakarta dimiliki pertama oleh Post Office, perusahan post production (rumah paska produksi) milik Peter F. Gontha.

Pada 1997-1998, saya sempat pula bekerja di VHQ,rumah paska produksi visual milik Eric Lomas, orang Australia, warga Singapura. Ia juga berpartner dengan Media Development Authority (MDA) semacam BUMN-nya Singapura. Melalui MDA inilah, antara lain pemerintah Singapura memberi kemudahan Disney, bahkan Lucas Film membuka usahanya di Singapura, termasuk memberi iming-iming tax free Lucas Art & Co, pernah melakukan riset tentang teknologi tiga dimensi (3D) visual untuk kepentingan iklan, yang mampu tampil di udara. Itu artinya, software animasi 3D, sederhananya, yang semula hanya bisa membuat model dan tayang di komputer atau cuma direkam ke format film dan video, lalu bisa ditayang di udara. “Seingat saya pada 2006 Lucas Art & Co, sudah pernah mempublikasikan rencana riset mereka soal itu, “ ujar Vidiyama Sonnekh, praktisi teknologi informasi di Jakarta.“Semacam hologram tiga dimensi yang bisa hidup di udara.”“Dulu kami pernah mau menawarkan teknologi itu sebagai suplier ke kelompok usaha Djarum yang sedang membangun Grand Indonesia.

Cuma, kala itu masih mahal, proyektornya saja satu US $ 20 juta,” kata Vidiyama.Nah harga mahal itu pastilah berkait ke riset panjang dan mahal.“Nah jika ada mahasiswa yang melakukan riset dan menemukan teknologi yang lebih murah, logikanya, bisa merugikan industri?” ujar Vidi.Judul penelitian David Hartanto: “Multiview acquisition from multi-camera configuration for person adaptive 3D display 3D Rekonstruski Dari CCTV, Syarat Utama Pendukung Intelligent Video Surveillance System.”Dari latar pemahaman animasi dan software, latar bekerja di perusahaan post, lalu mengetahui riset Lucas Art dari Vidiyama, serta membaca judul skripsi David, plus mendapatkan email dari blogger di Singapura, juga mengakuan sosok gadis bernama Angel, mahasiswi yunior David di NTU, maka saya menduga, bahwa penemuan David adalah: Kemampuan membuat gambar visual tiga dimensi yang bisa tayang ke udara, khusus untuk teknologi intelijen, di mana sosok orang digital bisa diprogram masuk ke ruang tertentu dipantau melalui kamera CCTV, gerakannya dipandu pemindai gerak (motion capture); dapat mengirim data, suara, layaknya manusia benaran yang sedang kita perintah bekarja.Jika benar demikian, hebat. bukan.Jika benar itu yang ditemukan, menurut Vidi, implementasinya bisa macam-macam. “Kita bisa saja mengganti resepsionis di kantor dengan orang 3D, bukan manusia utuh,” ujar Vidi.

Saya lalu menghayal membayangkan teknologi hologram dalam film Star Trek, yang kini memang mulai banyak dilakukan riset visualnya oleh Amerika Serikat. Riset itu juga berupaya mengembangkan televisi masa depan, antara lain agar publik dapat menonton teve tiga dimensi di udara tanpa lagi menggunakan kacamata khusus.Ketika di risetnya 70%, sesuai penuturan Angel, sebagaimana sudah saya tulis di Sketsa saya kedua soal David, profesor-nya tidak yakin David mampu. “Jika kamu bisa, kamu akan dapat Nobel,” ujar Angel, mengutip David. Gadis itu penasaran atas kesibukan David selama dua pekan menyelesaikan tugas akhir yang tak mau diganggu. Ia lalu menmgunjungi David dan mendapatkan keterangan demikian.Pada pagi sebelum berangkat ke kampus, David sudah memeindahkan data skripsinya ke flash-disk. Juga mebawa note book-nya dalam ransel, plus bekal minuman air putih dalam botol besar.“Sesuai dengan info kawan-kawanya di Singapura yang saya terima, hari itu skripsinya sudah samapi 90% final,” ujar Hartono Wijaya, sang ayah.Malang tak dapat diduga, kampus yang seharusnya menjadi wadah para ilmuwan yang berdedikasi kepada keilmuan dan kejujuran, sebaliknya justeru kini meninggalkan tanda tanya besar.

Jika indikasi pembunuhan memang kini menguat, riset jitu anak penggemar game dan visual itu pun diduga kuat sesuatu yang sangat berarti.Pertanyaaan, mengapa David harus mati?Hingga di sini adalah tugas jurnalisme perlu melakukan verifikasi terus-menerus menjadi penting.“Saya sangat menyayangkan mengapa KBRI kita di Singapura diam saja. Tidak bersuara?” ujar Constant Marino Ponggawa, anggota komisi I DPR RI, 2004-2009.Ketika saya desak dengan pertanyaan, mengapa DPR tak menekan pemerintah RI menyampaikan tekanan penyidikan tuntas terhadap pemerintah Singapura?“Ini waktunya sedang tak pas. DPR sedang reses.” kata Constant.Constant tak habis pikir, mengapa pemerintah diam, “Apa ini karena sosok yang tewas kalangan minoritas?”Bila saya menjawab Constant, maka dengan berat hati saya tuliskan kembali bahwa penghargaan negara terhadap nyawa memang rendah-rendah saja. Saya mengulang menuliskan bahwa tiga pekan lalu seorang wanita bernama Devi, di Pamulang, Banten, koma usai diperkosa, rumah sakit tidak bisa menerima karena tak ada identitas dan kartu miskin, dirawat sekenanya di pos ronda lima hari oleh warga, lalu mati begitu saja. Negara?Entah di mana!Di banyak kasus menimpa TKI kita di luar negeri, dilecehkan, dihamili bahkan mati, sebagaimana dipaparkan Christivita Wiloto, negara juga seakan entah di mana?Makanya jika seorang anak pandai, brilian pula otaknya, lalu kemudian dibunuh, dan opini media sedunia dibangun bahwa, anak mahasiswa Indonesia penusuk dosen? Pembunuh!“Maka celakalah kita,” ujar Christovita.Di saat anggota DPR reses, di saat pejabat pemerintahan bercuti lalu berkampanye, di saat para Caleg menghitung kocek, kematian satu nyawa, bisa jadi terlupakan lagi oleh pengelola negara. Padahal di kematian David, bisa jadi sesungguhnya menyangkut nama besar bangsa diindikasikan dirusak, sekaligus “dihina”. Sudah sejak lama anak-anak pintar negeri ini diimingi bea siswa, lalu setelah tamat otaknya guna membangun bangsa orang.. Inilah tragedi di bangsa yang menghamburkan dana dalam lima tahun ini mencapai Rp 1.000 triliun, untuk kepentingan Pemilu, Pilkada, Partai dan pengeluaran perorangan partai, namun alpa akan sisi kemanusiaan yang kian hari seharusnya: kian beradab.“Sebagai orang tua, Pak Hartono tak mungkin meminta nyawa anaknya kembali.

Tetapi minimal ada pembuktian, bahwa anaknya mati bukan karena menusuk dosen,” ujar Christovita.

Kebenaran yang Tidak Diungkap Media dalam Kasus David Hartanto!

Hari ini (5/3-09) saya dan temen2 SD/SMP yang seangkatan sama David Hartanto (Ming2) kita sama2 main kerumah keluarga Hartanto, sekedar untuk menyampaikan bela sungkawa, serta mencari kebenaran yang sesungguhnya karena kami tahu kalau David tidak akan melakukan hal-hal yang seperti diberitakan oleh media.

Disana kami disambut oleh kakak David, dan orangtuanya, kebetulan kami datang bersamaan dengan keluarga besar Hartanto, jadi kami lebih banyak mengobrol dengan kakak David, yaitu William Hartanto, atau dulu dikenal teman2 seangkatannya dengan panggilan Weha.

Semakin lama mendalami kasus ini, makin banyak keanehan yang terbuka, dan untuk adanya pemberitaan yang mulai menunjukkan kebenaran, kami berterima kasih untuk rekan David di NTU yaitu edwin, kami tahu dia mempertaruhkan gelar sarjananya demi mengungkap kebenaran, karena itu kami juga mau membantu menyebarkan kabar yang sesungguhnya.

Kejanggalan- kejanggalan yang ada:

1. Munculnya berita bahwa David menyerang Profesor Chan Kap Luk, lalu bunuh diri, padahal tidak ada bekas sayatan di pergelangan tangan seperti yang diberitakan, lalu darimana muncul berita tersebut? Untuk apa dimunculkan berita palsu bahwa David menyayat pergelangan tangannya?

2. Saat keluarga tiba disana senin malam setelah kejadian, keluarga ingin langsung melihat jenazah David, namun dihalangi oleh pihak2 tertentu, dengan alasan sudah peraturan, tentu saja keluarga harus menurut, apalagi saat itu keluarga masih syok. Lalu saat diizinkan melihat kondisi jenazah keesokan harinya, keluarga hanya diizinkan untuk melihat jenazah bagian leher ke atas, sedangkan bagian tubuh yang lain telah ditutupi plastik. Keluarga Hartanto juga telah mengkonfirmasikan ke pihak polisi Singapura, tidak ada luka di bagian pergelangan tangan. Saat itu keluarga Hartanto juga melihat di bagian leher depan (daerah leher dibawah bahu) terdapat banyak plesteran luka.Pertanyaannya. Untuk apa keluarga Hartanto menunggu 1 hari untuk melihat jenazah keluarga kandung mereka sendiri? Mengapa jenazah harus ditutupi oleh plastik? Apakah benar ada peraturan seperti itu? Atau hanya karangan pihak2 tertentu saja untuk menutupi kenyataan? Darimana asal luka di leher? Mengapa jenazah David terlihat berdarah cukup parah di bagian bokong?

3. Saat keluarga tiba di TKP senin malam, karena tidak diizinkan untuk melihat jenazah, keluarga datang ke NTU untuk melihat TKP, namun saat sampai, polisi tidak menemukan satupun bekas darah ataupun police line. Hebat bukan? Hanya dalam waktu sekitar 7 jam sejak waktu kejadian, TKP telah bersih total, adakah alasan untuk buru2 membersihkan TKP?

4. Lalu keluarga datang melihat kamar David, dan apa yang ditemukan? Ternyata semua peralatan komputer yang ada di kamar itu semua MENYALA. Apakah seorang yang mau bunuh diri akan menyalakan semua peralatan komputernya? Bahkan menurut kesaksian seorang teman, account MSN David masih menyala. Apakah hal ini terlihat seperti David mau mengakhiri hidupnya? Bahkan dia masih bermain game online sampai jam 2 pagi di hari kejadian bersama teman yang tadi menjenguk keluarga David.

5. Pada ruangan profesor tertinggal tas David yang biasa dia bawa, dan tebak apa yang dia bawa dalam tasnya? Sebuah handuk dan botol air mineral 1,5 L. (Semua yang mengenal Ming2 pasti tahu, dikelas, sejak SD, Ming2 selalu membawa handuk, bahkan kadang dikalungkan di leher saat berada di kelas, dia juga selalu membawa air minum yang banyak karena mamanya selalu berpesan untuk banyak mengkonsumsi air). Apakah seorang yang mau membunuh, lalu bunuh diri, akan membawa barang seperti itu? Akan jauh lebih mudah untuk membawa sebilah pisau yang besar (lebih besar dari pisau berukuran 10cm yang muncul di TKP, yang entah milik siapa).

6. Keluarga dihalang-halangi saat hendak bertemu dengan Profesor Chan Kap Luk, dengan alasan, saat itu dia sedang di ICU, dan kenyataannya? Hari rabu sang Profesor telah keluar dari rumah sakit. Apakah ada catatan seorang yang menderita luka tusukan parah yang harus masuk ICU, dapat keluar dari rumah sakit dalam tidak sampai 2 hari? Benarkan sang Profesor terluka? Atau hanya membaca koran sambil bersantai di ICU?

7. Saat keluarga ingin bertemu dengan "saksi mata" yang melihat David melompat dari lantai 4, pihak NTU menghalangi dengan alasan hal itu harus dirahasiakan. Oke, kalau begitu, darimana kita tahu kalau benar2 ada orang yang melihat kalau David benar2 melompat, bukannya terjatuh ataupun dijatuhkan orang?

8. Data tentang David dan FYP (Final Year Project) nya telah dihapus dari database NTU. Hanya dalam 2 hari, NTU langsung menghapus data topik FYP yang sedang David kerjakan, adakah alasan khusus dibalik keterburu-buruan pihak NTU untuk menghapus data tersebut? Tidakkah ada rasa ingin mengenang salah satu mahasiswa berprestasinya, alih-alih langsung menghapus data, seakan David tidak pernah kuliah disana?

9. Polisi Singapura menahan Laptop milik David dan akan dikembalikan setelah penyelidikan selesai. Untuk apa?

10. Pisau yang ada di TKP, dilaporkan berasal dari hall 4, itu hasil investigasi? Atau hanya karangan? Seorang teman di NTU berkata bahwa biasanya seorang dosen memiliki pisau kecil di ruangannya yang biasa digunakan untuk memotong buah. Jadi? Itu pisau milik David Hartanto atau Chan Kap Luk?

11. Waktu kejadian adalah sekitar jam 10.45 waktu Singapura hari Senin, apakah tidak terdengar aneh jika hanya sedikit sekali mahasiswa yang ada dan menyaksikan kejadian? Adakah tekanan dari pihak NTU untuk tutup mulut?

12. Senjata yang ditemukan -pisau buah 10cm- ditemukan tanpa gagang, dimanakah gagangnya? Mengapa tidak dilakukan analisa sidik jari? Jelas tidak mungkin menusuk seseorang tanpa menggunakan gagang pisau, jadi entah siapapun yang menusuk siapa, pasti ada gagangnya, namun pemberitaannya belum jelas.

Pemberitaan miring yang disebutkan media pun tidak berdasar, berikut klarifikasinya:

1. David berniat membunuh Profesornya lalu bunuh diri meloncat. Di dalam ruangan tersebut hanya ada David dan Profesor, David telah tiada, dan kesaksian yang bisa didengarkan hanyalah dari Profesor, darimana kita tahu kalau kesaksian tersebut benar? Tanpa bukti2 yang cukup, kesaksian Profesor tersebut tidak bisa dijadikan alasan untuk menyalahkan David.

2. David dikatakan stress karena beasiswanya dicabut, bahkan dia salah sasaran, yaitu mengamuk ke dosen pembimbingnya. Tidakkah hal itu terdengan sangat aneh? David sangat tahu dengan jelas bahwa beasiswanya diberhentikan karena prestasinya menurun, bukan salah Profesor itu. Pihak keluarga telah diberitahu sejak hari pertama diberitahukan bahwa beasiswanya diberhentikan, dan pihak keluarga menerima, dan mampu untuk membayarnya, David juga bersikap biasa2 saja tentang pemberhentian beasiswanya. Bagi yang mengenal dia, tentu tahu bahwa dia orang yang sangat cuek, hal ini juga dapat dilihat dari post edwin.

3. Dikatakan pula, bahwa David depresi karena tidak mampu menyelesaikan FYPnya. Seorang rekan David disana menyatakan bahwa FYP David hampir selesai. Dia tidak pulang ke Indonesia pada akhir semester lalu, karena ingin berkonsentrasi menyelesaikan FYPnya. Bagi yang mengenal David, apalagi kami teman sekolahnya, tentu tahu, David sejak dulu memang ketagihan game, tapi 1 hal, dia selalu mengerjakan tugas dan PRnya dengan baik, tanpa bantuan orang lain apalagi menyalin hasil pekerjaan orang lain. Jadi, jika dikatakan dia menyerang dosen pembimbingnya karena FYPnya tidak selesai, hal itu benar2 tidak masuk diakal.

4. David diberitakan pula menghilang dari pergaulan selama kurang lebih 1 minggu sebelum kejadian, namun keluarga David tahu yang sebenarnya, David sedang berkonsentrasi untuk menyelesaikan FYPnya, jadi pernyataan bahwa David menghilang dari pergaulan karena sedang depresi dan ingin membunuh itu sangat tidak valid, karena saat itu dia banyak chatting dengan kakaknya, bahkan bermain game online bersama temannya di Indonesia. Terlihat seperti orang depresi yang mau membunuh dosennya? Tidak sama sekali!

Saat ini fakta-fakta yang muncul setelah menyingkirkan pemberitaan media adalah:

1. David meninggal jatuh dari lantai 4, tanpa luka sayatan di pergelangan tangan, dan dengan luka di bagian leher, serta bagian bokong berlumuran darah.

2. Sang Profesor keluar dari rumah sakit dalam 2 hari, tanpa kejelasan dan foto apakah dia terluka atau tidak.

3. Pisau tidak jelas berasal darimana, dan ditemukan tanpa gagang.

4. Pihak universitas menutup-nutupi kejadian ini.

Spekulasi dan kemungkinan- kemungkinan:

Apakah benar David menyerang profesor saat dia sedang membungkuk menghadap ke layar komputer? Jika itu benar, maka tidak mungkin saat ini profesor tersebut telah pulang ke rumahnya dalam 2 hari sejak kejadian.Apakah sang profesor tersebut yang justru menyerang David?Tidak tahu, namun jika ya, apa motifnya?Saat ini santer beredar di Singapura kabar bahwa sang Profesor ingin merebut FYP milik David.

Hal ini didukung oleh kesaksian teman David yang mengatakan FYP David hampir selesai. Apakah mungkin seorang dosen dan Profesor dari universitas terkemuka di negara maju mau merebut FYP milik mahasiswanya sendiri? Apakah ini motif sesungguhnya? Kita tidak tahu!Apakah ada orang ketiga dalam kasus ini?

Kita tidak juga tahu.Ming, saat ini lo udah gak ada, gak ada lagi yang bisa kita lakukan buat lo, selain pulihin nama baik lo, dan menyatakan kebenaran, lo istirahat yang tenang aja disana.RIP, ming.Kabarkan ini ke teman-teman, saudara, dan copylah tulisan saya ini di blog/forum/facebook /friendster anda.

The mass media's reportage of the stabbing incident and alleged suicide at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) early this month was swift and intensive, but Indonesian students here claim the news reports are based on speculation - and they want it to stop.

"The speculation has gone too far," said Budi Raharjo Santoso, chairman of Pelajar Indonesia NTU, or PINTU, the Indonesian students association at the university. They argued that there was evidence David did not slit his wrists, as his parents said they did not see any wounds on his arms."Things happen, and we still don't know the reason behind the attack. A few days after the incident, a mainstream media outlet in Singapore implicitly suggested a connection between David's preferred pastime of gaming and the allegation that foreign students are "lonely and depressed".While supporting the investigation into the case, PINTU members said speculation about the case was disturbing and could deter Indonesians from studying in Singapore. The Truth Behind David Widjaja's Incident That Has Not Yet Been Revealed

Today I and some of David’s friends from elementary – senior high school visited David’s family at their home, for expressing our lament toward the tragedy and seeking the real truth. All of us (David’s friends and teachers) believed that he did not do such a crime like what media had published. When we were just arrived, there were his parents and brother welcoming us, and we discussed what had happened there.

The more we try to figure out this case, the more we found various oddities which are not disclose. Due to clarifying from David’s best friend from NTU called Edwin who already pawned his bachelor degree we would like to express our big gratitude toward him for trying to reveal the truth.

Finally we would like to spread the truth story about David Hartanto , our best friend.Several discordances:

1 Released by Media that David had attacked Professor Chan Kap Luk, then have intention to suicide by slicing his wrist , from where that the news come from. What they purpose to publish false news mentioned that David had slashed his own wrist?

2. When David’s family arrived in Singapore on Monday 2th March 2009 at night after the incident, Family wanted directly to recognize David’s cadaver however there are certain parties not allowed them. They said that it’s already the rule, so family tried to be cooperative even at the utter shocked moment. When Family had been allowed to recognize David’s cadaver after waiting for one day, nevertheless Family only can see David’s cadaver from neck until head, while others part had covered with plastic even they had asked to open the plastic and wanted to see his entire cadaver. Family had confirmed to Singapore police there is no wound on his wrist and at that time family also found there were many plaster on his front neck (neck under chin).The question is why they have to wait for 1 day just for seeing their son’s cadaver?Why David’s cadaver covered with plastic and not allowed to be opened? Is there any rule like that? Or just manipulation from certain parties to cover the truth?From where wound on his neck? Why around David’s cadaver buttock had much blood? And never had been discussed by media.

3. Due to not been allowed to see David’s cadaver, Family decided to visit the spot on Monday night, however when they were there they couldn’t see any blood left or police line, it’s already been cleaned. Only within 7 hours after incident the spot had been cleaned totally. Is there any reason why they are so rapid cleaning the spot?

4. Then Family visited David’s room and they found all the computer devices still on. Does someone who intent to suicide still switches on his computer? Even David’s friend who was online witnessed David’s msn account still appeared online. Does it looks like David wanted to end his life? Even he still played online games with his friend who visited David’s family with us until 2 am at Monday morning.

5 In Professor’s room family found there was David’s bag. In his bag family found 1.5 L mineral bottle and towel.( for those who knew David , He always brings towel to school even sometimes he put his towel on his neck. He also always brings water because his mother always instructs him to consume much water.) Does someone who want to suicide will bring this kind of stuff, it would be more easy to bring merely knife which is belongs to somebody.

6 .David’s family had been prevented to meet with Professor Chan Kap Luk with reason that at that time he was still in ICU. However Professor’s condition had been stable since Tuesday and allowed to return home on Wednesday, mentioned by Singapore media. However until today I never heard his statement towards this tragedy.

7. When family intended to meet with the witness who saw David’s suicide from 4th floor, NTU not allowed with reason that this issue should be keep confidentially. So from where we know that there is someone who saw David’s suicide, not accidently falling or there someone pushed him down?

8. Data about David and his final year project had been removed from NTU data base. Within 2 days NTU directly removed David’s data and his project. Is there any special reason behind this? Why should quickly removed his data? Don’t they have any feeling to remember their brilliant and intelligent student who won International Mathematic Olympic? Seemed like David never study in NTU.

9. The knife that had been used is from 4th hall, is that the result from investigation? Or just excused? One of our friends who study at NTU said usually Professor has small knife in his office to cut fruit. The question is that knife belongs to David or Professor Chan Kap Luk?

10. The tragedy happened at 10.45 am on Monday Singapore time. Doesn’t its oddity, merely few students who witnessing the incident? Is there any demand from NTU to remain silent?

11. The tools that had been found to stab the Professor is fruit knife without handle. Where is the handle? Is it possible to stab someone using knife without handle? Who stab who still been unknown, and the handle should be found. However there isn’t formal specify explanation about this case.

The fraud News about David which had been mentioned by media is not based on anything, this is the clarification:

1. David intent to kill his professor then suicide by jumping from 4th floor and in that room merely David and Professor. David now had departure and the only witness that we had merely his Professor. How we can be convinced that his statement is true without any sufficient prove? The statement from Professor could not become a reason to blame David.

2. In some Media had Mentioned David stressed because his scholarship was terminated last month, he had attacked a wrong person because of misunderstanding. Does all this issue so oddity? David was clearly conscious that his scholarship will be terminated because his performance was falling down and that’s not professor false. Moreover David’s father claimed that David had told them 3 weeks ago, soon after he received message from NTU. And Family accepted and could bear the fee since it will be the last semester in NTU for David.

3. It is also mentioned that David was in depression, due to could not finishing his final project. David’s friend who schooled in NTU said that David project was almost accomplished. He didn’t go back home to Indonesia last semester because want to concentrate on his project. For those who knew David, David love games however one thing that we also knew he always did his duties and homework adequately without need help from someone, and cheat someone’s homework. Therefore if in Media mentioned that David attacked his Professor because he stressed couldn’t finish his project, it really does not make sense.

4. Media also said that David disappeared almost one week before the incident. Nevertheless his family knew that he was concentrating on his project. The statement that David had disappeared from society due to depression and intended to attack his professor has failed to convince us and is not valid. Within that week David chatted with his brother, and also played online games with his friends. He did not look like someone in deep depression who wanted to attack his professor.

All facts that had appeared recently, already removed the false news from Media:

1. David died due to jump from 4th floor without any wound on his wrist and with wound on his neck and buttock.

2. Professor checked out from hospital within 2 days without any clarification and picture whether he experienced dire injured or not.

Speculations and Other Possibilities:

Did David stab his professor when he was facing computer screen? If yes, it is impossible to recover soon within 2 days.Is there any possibility that the professor attacked David? We don’t know, if yes. What would be his motive?Recently the news about the professor wants to steal David’s project is vividly talked by many people. This issue is supported by David’s friend who mentioned Final year project David almost accomplished. Is there any possibility a Professor from famous university in advance country wants to steal his own student final project? Is it the real motive? We don’t know.Is there 3rd party in this incident? 2) He is known to be cheerful, nice, pleasant, and not easily stressed. One of his IMO friends said that when David was on the verge not being able to represent Indonesia for IMO, he did not show any sign of disappointment, let alone depression.

David had informed his family as soon as he received this news, which is about 3 weeks before the incident. David and his family accepted the fact, and they don’t have the slightest of problems to make the final $3000 payment for David’s final (8th) semester.
5) David was once a President of an “electronic club” in NTU, believed to be a group with common interest in computer games (confirmation required).

*Final Year Project (FYP)*
1) Prof Chan Kap Luk (CKL) was David’s Industrial Attachment (IA) supervisor.
2) Students in NTU are given the freedom to choose their professor and the project title. David probably chose CKL because David was very satisfied with their relationship during IA.
3) The title of David’s FYP: Multiview acquisition from Multi-camera configuration for person adaptive 3D display. The goal is to create a 3D image of an object by processing the image produced by multiple cameras. If successful, this technology could lead to a breakthrough in security and military technology.
4) This project is reported to have received $500k funding from an unknown source (confirmation required). Whether the money is only for this project, or this FYP is a sub-project of a bigger one, is unknown.
5) The FYP is a two-semester program, so it has already started on semester 7. FYP draft report must be submitted about 4-6 weeks into semester 8, while the final report should be submitted a few weeks thereafter.

*A week before the incident*

1) David chatted with his brother William once during that week, and William did not detect anything strange from his little brother.
2) David put a “Do Not Disturb” message on his Facebook. It is believed that David wanted to focus more on his FYP that week.
The message (confirmation required) is believed to be ”Tidak menerima tamu di rumah dan telepon untuk sementara ini” or “Not accepting any guests at home or phonecalls at this moment”.

Believed to be around this date, Zhou Zheng (ZZ) had a conversation with his father, Zhou He Ping, on the phone. His father can sense that there is something troubling ZZ, but Zhou He Ping did not know anything about it.

02.00 AM:
David’s friend saw him online on Facebook, playing Hammerfall RPG.09.00 AM: Approximately around this time, David is still active in a game’s forum, reading and posting message(s) (confirmation required).
10.00 AM:
Approximately around this time David is believed to meet CKL. David brought his towel and drinking bottle with him inside his bag to CKL’s office. Around this time also, ZZ was also believed to start his first day at work by looking for some professors, one of them is CKL, to get approval letters. ZZ need these letters to get his lab key(s) and start working.
10.30 AM:
David and CKL came out from CKL’s office. Both were wounded, and they headed to different directions. CKL seeking help from nearby officers, the knife without handle was found to be with CKL. It is unknown who brought the knife to the office, and where is the missing handle. Meanwhile David headed to the nearby staircase, went from B1 down to B2, climbed the protective railing, and sit on top of the roof of the connecting bridge to Research Techno-Plaza. Some eye-witnesses saw David, soaked in blood, running.
10.35 AM:
Some eye-witnesses saw David on top of that roof and tried to talk him to prevent David from jumping, but they failed. David jumped down to ground floor (it is still unclear whether David voluntarily jumped or he tried to escape to the floor below, or he lost consciousness and fell). Police were immediately notified.
10.45 AM:
David was pronounced dead by the police. CKL should have received emergency medical attention by now, and he should soon be conveyed to National University Hospital (NUH) to receive medical treatment.
11.00 AM:
A lot of people visited the crime scene.Afternoon time: David’s family was notified, and they flew immediately to Singapore. NTU tried to calm the situation. Police were investigating the case. After which, David’s body is removed from the scene, and all blood trails were washed clean. Police report came out at 4.30 PM.

Evening time: David’s family arrived in Singapore. They asked to see David’s body, but were denied by the authorities. David’s family was disgruntled, but they complied nonetheless. Then they proceed to see the crime scene, only to find it clean without a trace, not even a police line was found. David’s family then went to David’s room, and surprised to find David’s computer still on, with his MSN Messenger still online.
*3 March 2009*
1) News broke out, primarily started by Singapore media, that David is believed to have stabbed CKL, and then committed suicide. The media claimed to have seen slash wound on David’s wrist. 2) CKL is announced to have passed critical stage and his life is not in danger.
3) David’s family was finally allowed to see David’s body, but only from neck upwards. David’s body was covered in plastic. They requested the police to open his whole body, but the request was denied. They managed to confirm with the police that there is a large slash wound on David’s neck below his chin, and there is no slash wound whatsoever on his wrists. They also saw there is a lot of blood on David’s buttock.
4) David’s family’s request to meet CKL was denied, because CKL was still in ICU.
5) David’s family then tried to meet the eye-witnesses, but again that request was denied by NTU, and the reason NTU gave was “it has to be kept confidential”.
6) ZZ worked in the same lab as David. When he was home, he left his front door open and burned sacred papers for prayers. This routine attracted his neighbors’ attention, and it continued everyday until ZZ was found dead on Friday.

1) CKL was allowed to leave NUH. When asked about the incident, he chose to remain silent. CKL is believed to spend his time at home, recuperating and recovering himself from the tragic incident.
2) The discrepancy posted by Singapore media raised many eyebrows around the globe, which led to many Indonesians rallying support for David and demand justice to be served.
3) Indonesian Embassy said they did not have the authority to interfere with the investigation, and thus relied fully to Singapore Police to do the investigation.
4) David is cremated, based on family tradition.
5) David’s family left Singapore after finishing all administrative tasks regarding David, including closing bank accounts, etc. They did not see the point of staying in Singapore any longer, after being denied access on virtually everything they asked to help shed some light on David’s case.
6) David’s laptop is held by Singapore Police for investigation.
7) NTU deleted all records of David and his FYP from NTU database for an unknown reason.
8) David’s NTU mail was also deleted, but a friend of his managed to save his inbox before it got deleted. ZZ was found hanged in his balcony by his housemate, by then he was already dead. Police were notified by his friends. When police arrived, ZZ has been brought down by his friends.

ZZ was pronounced dead by the police.The second suspected murder case in NTU within a week sparked even more attention towards these cases. Many wondered whether there is connection between ZZ’s death and David’s death.It is reported that ZZ left a will (final letter) for his family, but it has not been opened yet.

*Zhou Zheng*
1) He is 24 years old, born in Hubei, China.
2) He and David worked on the same field, and coincidentally on the same lab, under the same professor, CKL.
3) CKL said, through his wife, he did not know ZZ.
4) ZZ graduated on July 2008 from NTU, School of EEE. He was then on training under a company. He was then transferred to another country to continue his training. 2 months later, ZZ and his colleagues were ordered to return to Singapore, and before long their job were terminated.
5) According to NTU, ZZ has just transferred to the school as a Project Officer on Monday, 2 March 2009, and his task is to help and teach students in the lab.
6) One lab assistant said that his friend is a good friend of ZZ. Prior to ZZ’s death, his friend did not observe anything strange from ZZ. ZZ only mentioned that he got a heart disease.
7) People who live near ZZ’s apartment said that they did not know ZZ, and a day before the incident they also did not hear any strange noises.
8) Lian He Wan Bao from Singapore quoted a statement from a foreigner couple. The couple said that they did not know ZZ, but they remember him, because he often leaves his front door open and often burns sacred papers for praying. ZZ was often seen praying in front of the door.
